Steam Curator: Underrated Games You Missed

After about a 25-minute playthrough, my time with the main character, 2B, was over. I felt the game hadn’t given me enough of what the source material promised. It is up to you and your team to discover clues located in compounds around the map to unearth the boss’ lair. Reach the boss lair before other teams to kill and banish it, praying your enemies don’t close in on you before it is complete. Once the banishing is done, you can pick up the soul to gain a vague outline of other teams, but only for a total of five seconds.

Around the planet are the robots designed to clean up the mess left behind. However, these robots have created a society, and it’s up to you to decide how relationships form, for better or worse. The weapons are all of the time, so think Mosins, Shotguns, and Six Shooters, not to mention crossbows, jars of bees, and Corsatina bombs. Now, with up to a team of three, drop into the Bayou of 1985, in which zombies and untold horrors lurk.

I’ve heard some describe Core Keeper as a kind of dungeon-crawler version of Stardew Valley, and that’s certainly one way to think of many of the things this game does best. However, even that compelling combination of concepts really only touches upon why Core Keeper is so special. Unsurprisingly, Trombone Champ quickly became a meme hit on just about every social media platform still tragically made available to the world. That will happen when you’ve got a Guitar Hero-esque rhythm game starring a trombone player that plays an eclectic collection of tracks rather poorly. Sunless Sea, an atmospheric combination of survival and exploration, immerses you in the depths of the Unterzee, a haunting underground ocean.

Underrated Games To Try

With fantastic character development and a gripping plot that maintains players’ interest throughout its runtime, the pacing and atmosphere also keep up in keeping the player engaged and intrigued. From ignored triple-A games to gorgeous and ambitious indie darlings, these are the top 15 underrated games of 2022. In its simplest form, this game offers an intoxicating style of strategy you won’t find in any other title. Card Shark features so many creative ways to cheat and even more ways to get caught. Yes, you can refine your approach over time, but true success is reserved for those who learn to properly think on their feet and do what the situation calls for.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

The Wasteland series inspired the Fallout franchise and a ton of other RPGs taking place in post-apocalyptic worlds. Its underrated status can be attributed to numerous things before and after its release. The game’s eye-catching visuals and eerie soundtrack will keep gamers on the edge of their seats. Players skate through various stages while avoiding incoming attacks and using a bullet time feature to aim weapons. Players take control of Kara Hassan, a competitor in the dangerous Rollerdrome, where competitors must execute roller skating maneuvers while battling opponents with weapons. Not to mention that God of War Ragnarok was just released a few weeks ago when Evil West was released ultimately leading to its obscurity before it was even released.

Outside of the main plot, players are free to roam Santo Illeso and take part in a variety of side quests. But for players who want to scratch that necromantic itch, Callisto Protocol is a lovely and recommended play for players of the cosmic horror genre. Callisto Protocol was overshadowed by its underwhelming sales performance and day 1 bugs that forced players to abandon it just a few days after its release. The game’s main themes of mortality and memory are thoroughly explored, giving players enough to think about long after the game is over. Overall, Cult of the Lamb is a fun and very well-made game that will keep players invested for its whole run time. The gameplay, which combines resource management, exploration, and constant fights with the heretics against your cult, makes for an enjoyable but also tough experience.

Thanks to its stunning hand-drawn art style, evocative soundtrack, and innovative gameplay mechanics, Braid transcends the boundaries of the genre, offering a truly unique and unforgettable experience. Delve into the depths of Tim’s story, unraveling layers of meaning and symbolism, and prepare to be captivated by a game that will leave you pondering its mysteries long after the credits roll. Capybara Games’ unique pixel art style has been used for plenty of adventure and role-playing games over the years, but its unique take on the classic sidescrolling run-and-gun might just be its best. Playing like a blend of Metal Slug and a VCR, you control several different time-traveling heroes and can rewind time in order to duplicate them and have them work together to fight enemies.

The game wasn’t able to match the high standards of its predecessor, often feeling like it was retreading the same ground. However, its much weirder and more polished sequel The Evil Within 2 didn’t want to replicate past final fantasy successes. Instead, it was a completely original and cerebral take on the genre with storytelling that matched its gameplay.

There’s a very good chance that this is simply your favorite game of 2022 that you just haven’t played yet. How does a game this stylish, this tight, and this unique manage to fly so far below our collective radar? By their very nature, ARPGs offer more moment-to-moment action than more traditional role-playing games.

Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga

Then, rather than give you guns, it lets you beat the snot out of people with incredibly satisfying martial arts, utilizing everything you can get your hands on as a weapon. The dark and deep story fits perfectly with the brutal hand-to-hand combat. The remaster of this underrated classic is a beautiful game to play if you want a crack now.

The average Rollerdrome level sees you blend together both tricks and kills as you try to survive a dangerous new bloodsport that dominates this game’s dystopian landscape. As funny as those memes are, though, they sometimes disguise the fact that the comedy in this game is not some ironic accident. It’s hard to get comedy gaming right, but Trombone Champ is the rare comedy title that manages to pack its best jokes into some compelling gameplay.
